Let’s start with “How do you pronounce Alachua” When I first moved here, I pronounced it “A la (like a la carte) chew’ (the stress on chew) a” – wrong! The funny thing is no one corrected me for several months. I think people were having a good laugh at how that Yankee pronounced the name of their town.
